Updated MLB Free Agents 2025 Rumors, Predictions for Kyle Tucker, Pete Alonso, More
Kyle Tucker and Pete Alonso are expected to be two of the most coveted offensive free agents this offseason, with each seeking long-term deals with contending teams.
Their names are at the heart of rumors and reports from industry insiders and will continue to be until they sign on the dotted line with the team they will ultimately chase a World Series with.
Find out the latest on both, as well as star shortstop Bo Bichette, in this roundup of top rumors and predictions.
Surprising Favorite for Kyle Tucker?
1 of 3
Kyle Tucker is likely to be the most coveted free agent in this year's class and a surprising team may be the favorite landing spot for the acclaimed hitter.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported, "Tucker, a native of Tampa, will sign with the Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays or Los Dodgers, GMs predict." He added, "Don't be surprised if the Blue Jays are the perfect fit."
The Blue Jays are coming off a season in which they had the highest team batting average at .265 and a postseason during which they had the highest average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and team OPS.
They were one of the best offensive teams in all of baseball this past season and, considering it netted them the American League pennant and a trip to the World Series, it makes sense that the team would want to spend on more offense.
Tucker, one of the game's best hitters for years now, missed time due to injury in 2025 but still managed a .266 average, 133 hits, 73 RBI, and 22 home runs.
While some would suggest that paying what Spotrac predicts to be a $40.2 million market value for Tucker would be a mistake given the starting rotation issues facing the team this offseason, with several key free agents potentially departing the organization, their consistent offense catapulted them to a level they had not experienced since 1993.
Adding to it is an understandable front office choice.
Prediction: Tucker signs a monster deal, likely with one of the three teams mentioned in Nightengale's report
Latest on Bo Bichette
2 of 3
Speaking off the Blue Jays, Nightengale also reported, "[Bo] Bichette, who was expected to depart Toronto a year ago and whose name surfaced a year ago in trade talks now is expected to stay put to complete their goodwill tour."
Toronto is riding a wave of positive vibes after taking the seemingly insurmountable Los Angeles Dodgers to Game 7 of the World Series and it makes sense that the organization would want to continue building that goodwill with its fans by bringing back a phenomenal hitter in its star shortstop.
Bichette established a slash line of .311/.357/.483 in the regular season, stole four bases, drove in 94 runs, and hit 18 homers. In seven playoff games, he tallied eight hits, drove in six runs, hit a homer, and achieved a .923 OPS.
While his fielding leaves a lot to be desired, Bichette knows how to put bat to ball and is an indisputable asset for a Blue Jays team who will look to run it back next season and return to the Fall Classic.
Letting him walk would be a mistake and one, at least according to Nightengale's report, the team is not willing to make.
Prediction: Bichette returns to Toronto
Are the Mets Prepared to Move on from Pete Alonso?
3 of 3
Pete Alonso returned to form in 2025, proving his value to the Mets with a performance that saw him hit 38 home runs, drive in 126 runs, and hit for a .272 average.
It was enough to earn the Polar Bear a Silver Slugger Award and create questions about the team's willingness to let him walk via free agency after he announced that he would opt out of his deal and test the market.
Nightengale reported an answer that may be somewhat surprising.
"They are preaching defense or in the words of Stearns, 'run prevention,' and are expected to let him depart unless he signs a deal they can't turn down."
The team made its thoughts on signing Alonso to a long-term deal abundantly clear last offseason when it came back to him with a two-year contract with a player option. He signed it and after a productive season, is looking to sign a seven-year deal.
Nightengale noted in the same report that "GMs are predicting the perfect landing spot for Alonso must may be the Red Sox." Boston needs to upgrade its power and Alonso would certainly do that.
Whether he does it from the DH position or first base, where there are concerns about his throwing ability, is the question.
Prediction: Alonso leaves New York, signs elsewhere
