Belichick Eyed for Giants HC by Fans After Daboll Firing amid UNC Contract Buyout Buzz

After the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday, many are hoping to see them reunite with a familiar face.

Fans quickly took to social media in the wake of Daboll's firing to call for the Giants to replace him with legendary head coach Bill Belichick, who has been rumored to be a buyout candidate in his first year coaching college football at UNC.

Before Belichick won six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots and established himself as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NFL, he made a name for himself as the defensive coordinator of the Giants under fellow legend Bill Parcells. Together, they led New York to Super Bowl titles in 1986 and 1990.

After taking a year off from coaching following his departure from the Patriots, Belichick returned to the sidelines with the Tar Heels this season. However, his first try at coaching college football has been riddled with disappointing results and off-the-field tumult. UNC most recently defeated Stanford 20-15 to improve to 4-5, its second straight win following a four-game losing streak.

Many have speculated that Belichick could be one-and-done at Chapel Hill, which would open the door for his return to the NFL. The 73-year-old is still a highly respected figure in league circles, so he would undoubtedly draw interest from teams in need of a new head coach this offseason.

The Giants got a jump on changing things by letting go of Daboll, who had a career record of 20-40-1 in New York. The team fell to 2-8 this season after Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears.

It remains to be seen if the call of the NFL will draw Belichick back to the league, but fans will certainly be hoping the Giants can convince him to give it another go in 2026.
