Pete Alonso Signing Red Sox Contract Would Be 'Perfect Landing Spot,' per MLB GMs
Longtime New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is one of the top free agents available this offseason, and some are reportedly hoping to see him land in Beantown.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, multiple MLB general managers "are predicting the perfect landing spot for Alonso may be" the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox had a major hole at first base this past season after Triston Casas ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee and was forced the miss the remainder of the year after appearing in just 29 games. Casas wasn't very effective in his brief time on the field, hitting .182 with three home runs and 11 RBI. He also missed 98 games in 2024 due to torn cartilage in the right side of his rib cage.

To make things even more murky, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com recently reported that chief baseball officer Craig Breslow would not commit to Triston Casas being Boston's starting first baseman in 2026.
"I don't think it makes a ton of sense on Oct. 6th to say someone is or isn't our first baseman and we'll see how things play out," Breslow said last month. "Unfortunately, Triston has missed a significant amount of time over the last two years. We've also seen what he's capable of doing when he's healthy."
Alonso would be a major upgrade, as he appeared in all 162 games for the second straight year in 2025 and hit .272 with 38 home runs and 126 RBI.
The Red Sox are hoping to establish themselves as World Series contenders in 2026, so it would make sense for them to pursue Alonso this winter.
