Why Were Bills Unable to Trade for Jaylen Waddle and Quinnen Williams amid NFL Rumors?
The Buffalo Bills were reportedly interested in making multiple splash moves ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, but their AFC East rivals were not cooperative.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Sunday that Buffalo was the "high bidder" in efforts to land Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. However, Miami did not trade him and was asking for plenty in return:

According to Pelissero, the Bills also "tried to acquire" defensive lineman Quinnen Williams before the New York Jets traded him to the Dallas Cowboys.
Buffalo has won the AFC East in each of the last five seasons, so it comes as no surprise the other teams in the division weren't eager to trade some of their key players their way.
Had the Bills been willing to pay a division tax and completely outpay other suitors, perhaps the Dolphins and Jets would have been willing to change their mind. But just being the highest bidder wasn't enough to convince them to help the reigning AFC East champs.
While Miami didn't trade Waddle, New York did move Williams to the Cowboys.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the Jets for the star defensive tackle. The Jets also landed a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell from the Indianapolis Colts for star cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Nobody was busier ahead of the deadline than the 1-7 Jets, who have shifted into complete rebuilding mode with an eye on the future. They landed a number of high-value draft picks in their moves and are well-positioned to add impact players in the future.
And they didn't help the Bills in the process.
It is not surprising Buffalo was interested in Williams since it placed its own star defensive tackle Ed Oliver on injured reserve with a torn biceps. The interest in Waddle also follows, as wide receiver remains a position of need.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid leads the team in receiving yards (411), and Khalil Shakir is the only wide receiver who has reached the 300-yard mark on the campaign. Josh Allen and James Cook have spearheaded the Bills' offensive efforts, but having a game-changing wide receiver like Waddle would make things even more difficult on opposing defenses.
Yet Miami made sure that didn't happen.
