Michael Vick's Norfolk State Loses 8th Straight, Drops to 1-9 With Loss to NC Central
Michael Vick's Norfolk State Spartans remain stuck at one win on the season after falling 31–28 to the North Carolina Central Eagles on the road Saturday.
The loss marked Norfolk State's eighth straight defeat, with their only win coming in a 34–31 overtime victory over Virginia State earlier in the season. The Spartans now sit at 1–9 in Vick's first year as head coach.
Senior quarterback Otto Kuhns threw for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception while completing 18-of-26 passes before leaving the game with an injury. He was replaced by sophomore Vinson Berry, who threw two touchdowns on 4-of-9 passing for 42 yards.
Kam'Ryn Thomas caught two touchdown passes for 96 yards, and DreSean Kendrick added a touchdown reception. X'Zavion Evans also scored on the ground, while Kevon King contributed 149 rushing yards.
The Spartans trailed 17–7 at halftime and cut the deficit to seven with a touchdown in the third quarter. Despite finding the end zone twice in the fourth, Norfolk State couldn't complete the comeback and ultimately fell by a narrow three margin.
With the loss, Norfolk State is guaranteed to finish with a worse record than last season's 4–8 campaign. The Spartans remain at the bottom of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, while the win pushed North Carolina Central to 7–3, keeping them in contention with Delaware State and South Carolina State atop the standings.
Norfolk State will host 3–7 (0–3 MEAC) Morgan State next Saturday in hopes of securing its second win of the season.
