Dodgers' Alex Vesia, Wife Kayla Announce Death of Baby Daughter Sterling
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, announced the death of their baby daughter, Sterling, in an Instagram post Friday.
"Our little angel we love you forever & you're with us always," the message read. "Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we're going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.
"Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn't be able to do this without them."
TMZ Sports noted that both the Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays honored Vesia during the World Series by wearing his No. 51 on their hats.
"Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support," the message said. "We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It's brought us so much comfort.
The Dodgers announced before the World Series started that Vesia would not be on the team's World Series roster because of a personal family matter.
"It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodger organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date," the statement read.
Vesia has been with the Dodgers since the 2021 season and appeared in 68 games during the 2025 campaign. He also appeared in seven games during the team's postseason run.
