Garrett Wilson Says He Has to 'Trust' Jets' Vision After Gardner, Williams Trades
The New York Jets are in complete rebuilding mode after Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, which has left their best offensive weapon no choice but to "trust" the front office's plan.
"I gotta do my job," wide receiver Garrett Wilson told reporters Thursday. "I get paid to catch passes, block, help my teammates out and make plays. They get paid to do that … They have a vision. I don't get paid to have a vision, they do. They got one, and I've got to trust them."
The Jets made the most noise ahead of the deadline when they traded star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, as well as wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

Then they traded defensive lineman Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
New York now has a combined eight first- and second-round picks for the next two drafts, which is an ideal position to be in for a rebuilding team that is 1-7 and playing out the string on a lost season.
But it is understandable why it can be a frustrating situation for a player like Wilson.
The Ohio State product has done nothing but live up to and exceed expectations since the Jets selected him with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2022 draft. Despite a rotating door of quarterbacks and coaches, he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons in the league.
Wilson has been one of the constant bright spots despite the franchise's overall struggles, and it is difficult to envision a quick turnaround for the Jets even with all the draft-pick capital they now have after the trades.
To his credit, Wilson said he will focus on his job and let the front office continue to build the roster.
But the 25-year-old surely wants to be in playoff contention at some point in his career.
