Ronda Rousey Hopes Final Fight Will Be Her 'Beating the Crap' out of Cyborg

Steven RondinaJun 3, 2018

Ronda Rousey has already written the final chapter of her MMA career in her head, and it ends with a beatdown of longtime rival Cris "Cyborg" Justino (h/t MMAJunkie.com for the video). Speaking to media members assembled at her gym, she discussed how she sees her career ending.

"I have this idea in my mind that my final fight would be just beating the crap out of Cris Cyborg," she said. "And then when Dana puts the belt on me the last time, I can take it off and hand it back to him."

Rousey and Cyborg have been exchanging barbs since their time in Strikeforce, but a match has never come to fruition.

Rousey first rose to prominence in the now-defunct Strikeforce promotion, where she became an overnight star with her elbow-shattering bantamweight title win over Miesha Tate. That transition occurred just two months after Cyborg, the promotion's featherweight champion, tested positive for anabolic steroids, which resulted in her title being stripped and her license to compete being suspended for a year.

While Rousey joined the UFC following Strikeforce's closure, Cyborg was left in limbo, eventually signing with the all-women's MMA promotion Invicta FC as well as the kickboxing promotion Lion Fight.

The superfight discussion begins anew every time Rousey steps into the cage (not coincidentally, she is set to fight Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Aug. 1). Unfortunately, Cyborg competes at 145 pounds (a weight class that the UFC does not currently feature for women), and the UFC and Rousey have expressed an unwillingness to set up the fight unless she can drop to 135 pounds.

Watch for the rumor mill to start churning in a big way come Aug. 2.
