Jarren Duran, Red Sox Agree to Contract to Avoid Arbitration, Salary, Bonuses Revealed

Julia StumbaughNov 4, 2025

The Boston Red Sox have avoided arbitration with Jarren Duran as the two sides agreed to a new contract amid offseason trade rumors surrounding the star outfielder.

Duran has been signed to a one-year deal for 2026, the Red Sox announced Tuesday. The contract is worth $7.75 million, per Kyle Hightower of the Associated Press.

Duran is under team control through 2028.

He could earn another $75,000 in incentives if he makes 550 plate appearances next season, per Hightower. He racked up 696 plate appearances in 2025.

Duran will also receive a $100,000 buyout after Boston declined the $8 million club option on his previous contract.

The Red Sox similarly avoided arbitration with Duran before the 2025 season by signing him to a one-year deal with a club option.

He earned $3.85 million on that previous contract in addition to $150,000 in performance bonuses, per Hightower.

Duran led MLB with 48 doubles and tied for the lead with 14 triples while earning his first career All-Star nod in 2024.

The outfielder's batting average and WAR both dipped last season, during which he went from batting .285 with 8.7 WAR in 2024 to batting .256 with 4.7 WAR in 2025 (h/t Baseball Reference).

He still racked up 41 doubles, 13 triples and 16 home runs with a .774 OPS through 157 games.

Duran was unable to step up in the postseason, however, as he recorded just one hit and struck out four times during the Red Sox's three-game AL Wild Card series loss to the New York Yankees.

The new contract comes amid persistent trade rumors surrounding Duran after outfield Roman Anthony finished the 2025 season as an AL Rookie of the Year finalist.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden reported in October that "it sounds like the Red Sox will move on" from Duran this offseason in part because they see Anthony, Ceddane Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu as the future of their outfield.

Getting Duran's contract for next season worked out could potentially remove at least one hurdle from a potential trade this winter.

Given that the 29-year-old has established himself as one of the best extra-base hitters in MLB and has multiple additional years under team control, however, it will likely take a massive trade offer to ultimately convince the Red Sox to move Duran.
