Marquise Goodwin Qualifies for 2015 Pan Am Games Long Jump Finals
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin jumped 8.05 meters to qualify for the long jump finals at the 2015 Pan Am Games.
Goodwin, who represented the United States in the long jump at the 2012 Summer Olympics, was the No. 2 qualifier overall, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He will compete Wednesday in the final, which takes place just days before he's due to report to Bills training camp.
“I’ve always been a football player who jumps far,” Goodwin said, per Sean Fitz-Gerald of the National Post. “And now I’m a track guy who’s good at football. However you choose to see it.”

Seeing himself as a track athlete first may be necessary given Goodwin's lack of NFL production. He's made just 18 receptions in 22 career games, only one of which came in 2014. After using him semi-regularly on punt returns as a rookie, the Bills largely abandoned that plan last season as well.
Heading into camp, Percy Harvin, Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins have the Bills' top three receiver positions locked down. Chris Hogan made 41 receptions last season, so it would be a surprise to see him cut outright.
“There was a great deal of competition as-is,” Goodwin said in May, per Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News. "Then we added Percy...and a few other people to the mix, and that’s great. I think it’s great for our room, it’s great for the camaraderie in the room, and it’s great for the team.”
Goodwin, a 2013 third-round pick, will be competing with no fewer than eight receivers likely vying for one or two roster spots. The Bills have invested the most assets in Goodwin among those players, so he may have the inside track for now. But if his ascent away from the football field takes away from his production on it, the good times may be short-lived.
For now, though, Goodwin is on the precipice of his greatest professional accomplishment.
