College Football. Week 2.

Jeff WSep 11, 2009

Week 1 was glorious. That is all you can really say. Now, depending on your allegiances it may not have been so great of a week. Sooner fans are still in disbelief that they lost to BYU, and in more disbelief that their returning Heisman winning QB is sidelined with a shoulder injury. There were top 25 teams struggling with lesser opponents, I am looking at you Iowa and Ohio State. If the first week is a look at the entire season, I would say we are in for a good one. Here are some thoughts on this weeks games:

Notre Dame at Michigan- Remember when this used to be a BIG game? Well, according to some it is again. Notre Dame is looking for respect and a win in the Big House could be just the ticket. Michigan is not the theam that it used to be, but they will be fired up for this one. It is their chance to gain some much needed respect. I actually think this will be a pretty good game, and even though its hard for me to say, Notre Dame will win it late.
My Pick: Notre Dame 31 Michigan 23

Texas at Wyoming- I don’t really think this will be a close game, but some of you were surprised I did not include a Texas team in last weeks picks. I apologize. Colt McCoy had 7 incompletions last game which was like seeing a four leaf clover or a chubacabra….it was surprising. The Texas running game looked fine last week, minus the 2 fumbles lost by Vondrell McGee. While not many people (outside of Wyoming) are looking for a close game, the altitude COULD have an affect on the Longhorns…but not much.
My Pick: Texas 45 Wyoming 13

UCLA at Tennessee- This game is an interesting one. Tennessee looked great in their opener against Western Kentucky, but most teams probably would. UCLA beat San Diego State, but it was not a pretty win. The Bruins need consistent play from their Quarterback to have a shot against a talented Vol defense. The Vols offense was the talk of Knoxville last week. QB John Crompton threw for 5 tds and the Vols had 2 100 yard rushers. Again, it was WKU, but coaches and fans were pleased. Look for the offense to shine again on Saturday.
My Pick: Tennessee 34 UCLA 17

USC at Ohio State- Easily the game of the week. The Buckeyes are coming off a “sleepy” performance against an over achieving Navy team, while USC had its way with San Jose State. If Terrelle Pryor can use his legs to make plays against the Trojan defense, he could keep the Buckeyes in it. Matt Barkley is coming off a good performance against SJSU, which helped calm some nervous Trojan fans. The true frosh has plenty of playmakers around him, which should help against a physical Ohio State defense.
My Pick: Ohio State 28 USC 24

Upset Pick of the Week: Houston 35 Oklahoma State 31: Not saying it will happen, but The Cougars have a high powered offense that can possibly keep up with OSU’s talented group. Look for it to be closer than the experts think.

Nobody Cares About This Game Pick: Western Illinois vs. Northern Illinois- The battle of Illinois, minus the University of Illinois. WIU has a high powered offense which it will need against a pesky NIU team that came close to beating Wiconsin. I know you don’t care, but here is my pick: NIU 38 WIU 31
