Latest MLB Free Agents Rumors and Predictions After 2025 World Series

Erik BeastonNov 4, 2025

With the Dodgers still in celebration mode following their Game 7 victory in the 2025 World Series, all eyes turn to the offseason and a robust free agent market featuring big names, all of whom will be chasing the opportunity to hoist the Commissioner's Trophy as part of the next team to win the Fall Classic.

Big hitters such as Kyle Tucker, Pete Alonso, and Kyle Schwarber are expected to command big-money deals, but where might the sluggers end up?

Find out in this preview, including rumors surrounding each and predictions for their landing spots.

Boston Pursuing Kyle Schwarber?

Dodgers vs Phillies in Los Angeles, CA

The Boston Red Sox "love" Kyle Schwarber, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reported.

How could they not? The Red Sox need a big bat and there are few that had the impact that Schwarber's had in Philadelphia this season. The designated hitter and NL MVP candidate blasted 56 home runs, 132 RBIs, and 111 total runs.

He had a 4.9 offensive WAR and was able to change the course of any game with the swing of a bat.

Cotillo wrote, "Cora has been clear about his admiration for Schwarber, who the Red Sox love, and if a quick reunion with the Phillies doesn't come together, expect Boston to show some real interest there."

They are unlikely to be the only team interested in bringing the slugger on board. His former team, the Chicago Cubs, and the Baltimore Orioles could use a game-changing bat at the DH position and will likely make some calls on the 32-year-old.

He will not be a cheap addition, however.

Spotrac has Schwarber valued at four years and north of $99 million, with an average salary north of $24 million. Some, including Cotillo, believe he could fetch as much as $50 million a year.

Philadelphia would love to bring Schwarber back, but may struggle to find financial flexibility to make such a deal, depending on what the market for the MVP finalist ends up being.

With that said, one would be hard-pressed to imagine what the Phillies' offense would look like without Schwarber smashing balls out of Citizen's Bank Park and if they would even have enough of it to compete against some of the higher-powered offenses in the division, including the New York Mets.

The Phillies finding a way to make a deal work, even if it includes deferred money, seems like the most likely option.

Prediction: Schwarber, somehow and some way, returns to Philadelphia

Dodgers to Make a Play for Top Free Agent?

Division Series - Milwaukee Brewers v Chicago Cubs - Game Four

The Los Angeles Dodgers just repeated as World Series champions and if there is one thing that is for certain, it is that the front office will not rest on its laurels and will be players in this offseason's free agent market as they pursue a three-peat.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the team will be in play for free agent third baseman Kyle Tucker.

Tucker would be an immediate upgrade at the position. Max Muncy still has value as an offensive presence with the team but Tucker is younger, a multi-time Gold Glove winner, and one of the best in the game at his position.

That he is also a skilled hitter, tallying 133 for the Cubs in 2025 while driving in 73 runs and delivering 22 homers only enhances the upgrade he would be for the two-time champions.

There will be others competing for Tucker, likely including the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and those aforementioned Chicago Cubs, but it would be tough to imagine a scenario where Tucker does not head west if the Dodgers show him the money.

Spotrac has him valued at 10 years, $401 million, a price tag that few teams can meet, the Dodgers being one of them.

Prediction: Tucker signs with Los Angeles

Pete Alonso's Asking Price

Pete Alonso is expected to be one of the hottest free agents in this year's class following a strong offensive season for the New York Mets on a short-term, bet-on-yourself deal signed last offseason.

He opted out and will test the market, where he will look for a deal in the seven-year range, per Mike Puma of the New York Post.

The Polar Bear may get it, too.

Alonso delivered the most hits of his career in 2025 with 170, scored 87 runs, drove in 126 others, and blasted 38 home runs. There will absolutely be teams looking to add his offensive fire power and ability to get on base (.347 this past season) to their clubhouse.

The deciding factor on his landing spot may ultimately be whether he is willing to give up playing first base, where he was a defensive liability for the Mets at times with his unpredictable throws, and focus primarily on the DH spot.

If not, it could limit his market.

Alonso has been vocal about his desire to stay in New York, even as he chose to opt out of the current deal. While there are many Mets fans who could not stand to see him in any jersey but the orange and blue, it may ultimately come down to his willingness to make the move.

And the Mets' willingness to pay him the Spotrac-projected five-year, $147 million deal he may get elsewhere.

Prediction: Alonso leaves the Big Apple to continue his career
