Vikings' Kevin O'Connell 'Comfortable' with QB Room amid Kirk Cousins Trade Rumors
The Minnesota Vikings currently have undrafted rookie Max Brosmer serving as J.J. McCarthy's backup after Carson Wentz was lost for the season last week due to a left shoulder injury, while veteran John Wolford is on the practice squad.
And despite rumors that the Vikings could consider adding a veteran at the position to serve as McCarthy's backup, such as Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson, head coach Kevin O'Connell doesn't seem inclined to do so, telling reporters he was "pretty comfortable" with the current setup.
"I think with bringing John in, it was something where we wanted to make sure we had a third guy in the room, a guy I know very well," he added. "He immediately picked up where I remember being with John—super smart, has a pretty high level of quickness and athleticism, quick twitch for a release and kind of a tight window thrower kind of guy that can activate a lot of different throw types. And he's got experience understanding how our pass offense works and how we want to operate. So as he said, he's the old man in the room now, and I think that's important for two young guys."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
McCarthy has been up and down this year after missing his entire rookie season, throwing for 444 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions in three games while completing 57.6 percent of his passes and taking 14 sacks. He's also rushed for 62 yards and two scores, and the Vikings are 2-1 in his starts.
Wentz was signed in the offseason to serve as his backup, bringing plenty of experience to the role, but it sounds as though O'Connell is comfortable handing over the reins to either Brosmer or Wolford if McCarthy suffers another injury.
