Cowboys' Dak Prescott Reacts to Jerry Jones' Remarks from Micah Parsons Contract Talks

Zach BacharNov 3, 2025

Dak Prescott reacted to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' comments regarding his status on the team while discussing contract negotiations with former star pass-rusher Micah Parsons.

"No pressure, really," Prescott said in an ESPN interview. "I think if anything, what it says is our expectations and our standards are our line. I understand what Jerry is trying to do around here, and the ultimate goal is winning. He's going to make noise and do that, right? He said it before, if there's not enough noise he'll create it himself and make it a soap opera. But at the end of the day, our jobs as players and men in the locker room is to win and to do whatever it takes to win. I don't think there's pressure when he says that, as more of we have a shared expectation."

After the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers on Aug. 28, Jones explained why he previously chose to pay Prescott.

"It's very simple: Dak was indispensable, in my mind… and Micah wasn't," Jones said, per Tommy Yarrish of the team's official website. "It's just numbers, it's that easy. And that's not personal at all… the numbers just weren't there with Micah."

Parsons' change of scenery came just under a month after he requested a trade from Dallas due to a lack of traction in contract talks. After the swap, the Packers handed him a hefty four-year deal worth $188 million.

Prescott went through a similarly lengthy contract negotiation with the Cowboys prior to last season. He ultimately ended up signing a four-year, $240 million contract on the same day as the team's 2024 season-opener.

The decision to pay Prescott has looked like a shrewd one this year, as he's completed 70.3 percent of his throws for 2,069 yards and 16 touchdowns compared to five interceptions in eight starts.

His 79.0 QBR is the highest among 32 qualified quarterbacks in 2025, via ESPN.

Dallas could use a difference-maker such as Parsons on its defensive front, though.

The Cowboys are giving up 31.3 points and 404.6 yards per game this season, with both marks representing the second-worst averages in the NFL. Their 15 sacks also rank No. 25 among all teams.

As for Parsons, the four-time Pro Bowler has remained a consistent presence in opposing backfields this year. He's recorded 14 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks across his first eight appearances with Green Bay.
