Dolphins' Minkah Fitzpatrick Reportedly Drawing Interest After Jaelan Phillips Trade
The fire sale might be on in Miami.
On the same day the Dolphins traded edge-rusher Jaelan Phillips, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz posted that the team was "open to trading" safety Minkah Fitzpatrick amid "interest from multiple teams."
Fitzpatrick's name has come up in other reports as well:
The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers in late June for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-rounder.
In nine games this season, Fitzpatrick has recorded 50 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. The 28-year-old, a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, is under contract through the 2026 season and will have a cap hit of $18.8 million next year.
The Dolphins likely weren't expecting to field offers for Fitzpatrick so shortly after acquiring him, but the 2025 season has been an abject disaster, and a number of the team's players—including Fitzpatrick, wideout Jaylen Waddle and edge-rushers Bradley Chubb and Matthew Judon—have been the subject of trade rumors, while Phillips has already been dealt.
At 2-7, the Dolphins are unlikely to get themselves back in the playoff race, and it appears interim general manager Champ Kelly may be willing to go the selling route after taking over for the fired Chris Grier. Given Fitzpatrick's pedigree and the fact that he's under contract through 2026, he could fetch a solid price for the Dolphins if they ultimately deal him before Tuesday's trade deadline.
