Texans' C.J. Stroud Out vs. Jaguars with Concussion After Injury in Loss to Broncos

Andrew PetersNov 5, 2025

The Houston Texans will be without their starting quarterback for some time after a recent injury.

C.J. Stroud has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after suffering a concussion in a Week 9 loss to the Denver Broncos, head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters Wednesday.

Stroud was trying to get a first down with his legs, but slid short before taking a hit to the chest from Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine. The hit caused Stroud's head to hit the ground.

The news comes as the Texans sit 3-5 on the season are fading out of the playoff race in the AFC South.

Stroud, who's in his third season in the NFL, has thrown for 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions this year.

Stroud had a tremendous first campaign in 2023 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year behind 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions, but his production took a hit in Year 2 as he had 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

He's hoping to hit his stride in Year 3, but his recent injury could throw a wrench in his plans.

With Stroud sidelined, the Texans will turn to backup quarterback Davis Mills under center. Mills was Houston's starter in 2021 and 2022 but has spent the last few years playing behind Stroud.
