Aaron Rodgers finished the win having gone 25-for-35 with 203 passing yards and a touchdown.
Jones meanwhile threw three picks and one touchdown while going 31-for-50 with 342 passing yards.
Steelers were impressed by both their quarterback and their defense's ability to force Jones to double his season-long interception total.
Members of the Super Bowl XL winning team, including former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, were in attendance to see the Steelers win.
The Colts' top-ranked offense started out the game by marching downfield on a five-minute touchdown drive.
Despite getting an extra first-quarter posession thanks to a botched Colts punt recovery, the Steelers were unable to immediately answer.
Momentum shifted in the second quarter, when back-to-back Colts turnovers forced by a TJ Watt strip-sack and Payton Wilson interception allowed the Steelers to run consecutive touchdown drives.
Wilson then punched another Jones pass out of the air to allow rookie defensive end Jack Swayer to record his first NFL interception in the third quarter.
The Steelers looked like they were about to close out the win after taking a 17-point lead with just under seven minutes left in the fourth.
The Colts put on some pressure, however, with a touchdown drive followed by a forced fumble to get the ball back at their own 24-yard line with almost four minutes left on the clock.
That's when Jones threw his third interception of the game to Joey Porter Jr. to seal the Steelers' win.
The Indianapolis offensive line had allowed just five sacks in its first eight games before giving up five against the Steelers.
Star running back Jonathan Taylor was meanwhile held to 45 rushing yards after averaging more than 106 per game through Week 8.
The Steelers defense still struggled on third and long. Jones and the Colts finished the loss having gone 6-for-14 on third downs while completing all five fourth down attempts.
After dropping consecutive games to the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers, the Steelers will improve to 5-3 and maintain their lead over the AFC North.
Steelers fans will hope to continue seeing a more consistent defensive performance during next Sunday's Week 10 matchup at the Los Angeles Chargers.
