Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking extra-inning defeat in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took home a second straight Commissioner's Trophy thanks to the 11th-inning home run from Will Smith that sealed their 5-4 win on Saturday night in Toronto.

Guerrero was visibly emotional after coming just short of the Blue Jays' first championship since 1993.

Toronto's World Series drought will now stretch to at least 33 years despite the Blue Jays holding a lead from innings three through nine of Saturday's winner-takes-all game.

MLB fans were left stunned by the late comeback push from the now back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers.

The Blue Jays pulled ahead early when Bo Bichette hit a first-pitch home run off Shohei Ohtani to bat in three runs in the third inning.

The Dodgers got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernandez in the fourth quarter, although Daulton Varsho saved multiple runs with a diving catch.

The benches cleared in fourth inning after Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski hit Andrés Giménez with a pitch.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. then ended the frame with a diving catch as the base line.

The Dodgers continued chipping away at the Blue Jays' lead with another RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

Ernie Clement helped the Blue Jays pad their advantage in the fifth inning with a single and stealing second. Giménez then sent him home and reestablished a two-run lead with a double to the right wall.

Ohtani earned a walk off Trey Yesavage in the seventh, but the Blue Jays quickly closed out the frame by forcing Freddie Freeman into a double play.

The Dodgers climbed back within one run, however, when Max Muncy hit a homer off Yesavage in the eighth.

Clement became the MLB record-holder for the most hits in a single postseason by recording his 30th on a single that forced Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan off the mound in the bottom of the frame.

Blake Snell closed out eighth for the Dodgers, leaving Toronto with just a one-run lead as closer Jeff Hoffman took the mound for the ninth.

Miguel Rojas then quieted the Toronto crowd with a game-tying home run.

The Blue Jays got two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth after earning a single and a walk off Snell.

The Dodgers then turned to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who hit Alejandro Kirk with a pitch to load the bases.

Varsho hit a ground out to give Isiah Kiner-Falefa a shot at a game-winning run so convincing the crowd at an Edmonton Oilers game erupted in cheers.

After review, however, officials determined Rojas had caught Kiner-Falefa out at home.

Clement stepped up to hit a ball deep with the final out of regulation, but Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages leapt over Kike Hernandez to make the catch and force the game to extra innings.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the top of the 10th, but Guerrero helped get the Blue Jays out of the jam by just barely beating Hernandez to first base.

Los Angeles claimed its first lead of the game one inning later with Smith's homer in the top of the 11th.

Guerrero gave Blue Jays fans hope by starting the bottom of the 11th with a lead-off double. Kiner-Falefa then hit a sacrifice bunt to get him to third base before Addison Barger made it to first on a walk.

The Blue Jays' hopes of a comeback were destroyed when Kirk grounded out into a double play to end the 11th inning.

The loss marked a crushing end to a season during which Toronto came six victories short of a regular-season franchise record with a 94-win campaign.

The Blue Jays started out the postseason with a four-game ALDS win over the New York Yankees. Toronto went to seven games in the ALCS before securing their World Series ticket to with a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Despite putting Los Angeles on the brink of elimination in Game 5, the Blue Jays were unable to close out the Fall Classic in two tries at home as the Dodgers became the first team to win back-to-back titles since 2000.
