Stefan Savic to Atletico Madrid: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More
Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic, with the Montenegro international penning a five-year deal with the La Liga club on Monday.
It brings to a close a three-year spell for Savic in Serie A, where he moved following an unsettled season with Manchester City in 2011-12—though he did become a Premier League winner.
At Fiorentina he established himself as a solid presence in the centre of defence, and he made 28 starts in Serie A last season as Fiorentina finished fourth, per WhoScored.com.
Atleti sporting director Jose Luis Caminero expressed his ambitions for Savic on confirmation of the switch, per the club's website:
"We are very pleased by the agreement reached with Fiorentina, because Stefan is a player with huge prospects and a great future ahead. He is a quick and potent defender, with experience despite his youth due to having played in the top leagues of Serbia, England and Italy. I am convinced that he will contribute greatly to the team.
"
Sky Sport's Fabrizio Romano previously reported details of the fee involved in Atleti's signing of the 24-year-old:
Having failed to retain their La Liga title in 2014-15, Atletico continue their rebuilding process as Diego Simeone's side look to challenge once more both domestically and in Europe in the coming term.
