Jaylen Waddle, Chubb Reportedly Among Dolphins Drawing Trade Buzz After Grier's Exit

Joseph ZuckerOct 31, 2025

Teams around the NFL "are certain to check back in" with the Miami Dolphins about any potential trades following the departure of general manager Chris Grier, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero and ESPN's Cameron Wolfe reported wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and linebacker Bradley Chubb are among those who have drawn interest with the trade deadline days away:

When it comes to Waddle, SNY's Connor Hughes reported that removing Grier from the picture could have a meaningful impact:

Miami is now 2-7 following Thursday's 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

With the team all but guaranteed to miss the playoffs for a second straight year, big changes were inevitable and Grier may not be the only notable figure out the door. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported head coach Mike McDaniel is sticking around for now, but that doesn't rule out a coaching change in the offseason.

As bad as things are, installing Champ Kelly as the interim general manager might lower the chances of the Dolphins going into a full fire sale.

One reason to dismiss the GM before the deadline is that their replacement isn't as incentivized to save their job by executing trades with an eye on the short term. Any prospective candidates for the position would presumably want to be the person who makes major decisions with the roster.

Linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Matthew Judon are both free agents in the offseason, so recouping some draft capital for them would make sense. However, Waddle and Chubb are signed through 2028 and 2027 respectively, and a new general manager might value them very highly.

Of course, the exact opposite could be true when the Dolphins aren't projected to have a lot of salary cap space. Kelly can help to set the table for the offseason by shedding as much money and adding as many draft picks as he can.

For contending teams looking for reinforcements, there's only one way to find out what the priorities of Miami's new front office are.
