USWNT Beat New Zealand as Fans Hype Emma Sears' Hat Trick, Historically Young Lineup

The United States Women's National Team cruised to a 6-0 win in a friendly over New Zealand on Wednesday.

The USWNT went out with a historically young lineup. The lineup had an average of just 17.3 caps heading into the match, marking the United States' least experienced team in terms of caps in the last 25 years.

But the lack of experience didn't phase them.

The USWNT got to work early, scoring in the eighth minute on a goal from Emma Sears.

The United States scored again in the 34th minute on a goal from Catarina Macário, and captain Rose Lavelle made it 3-0 just before halftime.

Sears made it a brace with her second goal early on in the second half. Macário found her second goal to put the USWNT up 5-0.

Sears secured the hat trick when she tapped in a close goal in the 84th minute.

After the win, fans hyped up the youthful lineup and the 24-year-old Sears. There was also plenty of love for the veteran Lavelle, who was serving as captain for the fourth time.

It's a good sign for the USWNT that a lineup with not much experience was able to go out and dominate, even if it was just a friendly. The United States also clearly has a star in the making in Sears.
