NFL Insider Says 'Don't Expect That Many Fireworks' at Trade Deadline amid Rumors

Scott PolacekOct 29, 2025

NFL teams have until the Nov. 4 deadline to make roster-altering trades, but fans reportedly shouldn't expect there to be many head-turning moves this year.

"I just have consistently been getting the same thing," Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Wednesday's episode of the Scoop City podcast (eight-minute mark). "Which is, don't expect that many fireworks. Don't expect some big name. We'll see some movement."

That may not be what fans want to hear, but the NFL trade deadline is not known for consistently producing the same type of league-shaking moves as the MLB and NBA ones.

Instead, there is often a lot of movement around the NFL draft and in the offseason, at least when it comes to significant trades. In just the last few years, the Philadelphia Eagles traded for A.J. Brown, the Miami Dolphins traded for Tyreek Hill, the Las Vegas Raiders traded for Davante Adams and the Green Bay Packers traded for Micah Parsons in various offseasons.

Given Parsons' ability as one of the best defenders in the league and Green Bay's status as a presumed Super Bowl contender, it is highly unlikely there will be a trade before the Nov. 4 deadline that comes close to matching that move's overall impact.

There will still be plenty of speculation and rumors, though, and there figures to be a handful of minor moves that bolster the overall depth of contenders and give rebuilding teams more draft assets.

But Russini's report isn't the only one that threw cold water on the idea of a franchise superstar being traded in a "fireworks" type acquisition:

The biggest question may be whether some headline names who are not exactly franchise cornerstones but still excellent players will be traded. Someone like Breece Hall, who is playing on the final year of his deal for the 1-7 New York Jets, could fit that profile of a trade candidate.

So fans hoping their teams improve their rosters shouldn't give up hope just because there may not be a superstar on the way.
