Breeders' Cup 2025 Odds and Predictions for All Races

Horse racing fans have plenty to look forward to this week, as the 2025 Breeders' Cup World Championships are set to kick off this Friday. The 14-race event will span two days and will be held at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, California for the second straight year.

While the Breeders' Cup Classic will be the marquee event this weekend, serious fans will want to catch all of the action. Here's a look a the weekend's schedule, along with prize pool information and predictions.

2025 Breeders' Cup Classic Preview

The Breeders' Cup Classic will be the highlight of the weekend, and not just because it has a whopping $7 million prize purse—though that certainly adds to the excitement factor. This year's field is incredibly strong, though it did take a hit on Wednesday.

Sovereignty, who won both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes earlier this year, was considered the favorite heading into race week. However, trainer Bill Mott decided to pull Sovereignty from the race after the horse developed a fever.

"We're going to scratch," Mott said, per David Grening of Daily Racing Form. "He developed a fever yesterday afternoon, his temp shot up again, we retreated him. That basically made our decision." 

While losing Sovereignty does dampen things a bit, the Breeders' Cup Classic will still feature a star-studded field.

The list of favorites includes 2024 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Sierra Leone, 2024 runner-up Fierceness, 2025 Belmont runner-up Mindframe and 2025 Preakness winner Journalism.

Fierceness, who will break from the No. 1 gate and be guided by John Velazquez, took over as the top favorite following Sovereignty's removal.

Fans hoping to catch the Classic and other events from the Breeders' Cup World Championships at home will have options.

NBC will begin its national broadcast at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and will end at 7 p.m. ET following the Classic. The four races leading up to the Classic will also be part of NBC's coverage.

Most other races will be broadcast on USA, while all races will be covered on Peacock and FanDuel TV. The FanDuel TV coverage, however, will differ from the main broadcast.

The Players' Show will also be broadcast on the Breeders' Cup's official YouTube, Facebook, and X channels, meaning fans should have no trouble checking in on the action.

Undercard races are scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. ET on Friday and 1:05 p.m. ET on Saturday.
