Manny Pacquiao Confirms Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight is 'Possible' Amid Rematch Rumors

Mike ChiariOct 29, 2025

Amid rumors of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch a decade after their first meeting in a boxing ring, Pacquiao confirmed Wednesday that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II is on the table.

Speaking to reporters in his home country of the Philippines, Pacquiao said, "Right now we have a lot of negotiations about my next fight; there's a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather. There's a lot of ongoing negotiations right now, so it's hard to plan what fight I'm going to post. I'm waiting for the final negotiation."

The 46-year-old veteran added, "I'd love to have another fight, a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. So I hope that in the negotiations, we can understand each other and we can negotiate well."

Pacquiao's comments came after The Ring's Mike Coppinger reported Monday that Pac-Man and Mayweather were in talks about a possible rematch in 2026, which would stream live on Netflix.

For several years, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was considered the dream fight that every boxing fan wanted to see. Negotiations hit a snag time after time, and it seemed as though the bout may never happen.

However, the two sides finally reached an agreement to fight in May 2015, resulting in a clash that was billed as "The Fight of the Century."

Unfortunately for fans, the fight was largely a disappointment, as Pacquiao looked listless and Mayweather cruised to an easy, unanimous-decision victory.

It was later revealed that Pacquiao was limited by a shoulder injury, which perhaps explained why he didn't put up much of a fight.

That win brought Mayweather's career record to 48-0, and he went on to beat Andre Berto and UFC star Conor McGregor to improve to 50-0. He then retired and has not had an official professional fight since 2017.

However, the 48-year-old Mayweather has competed in several exhibition bouts, and he is scheduled to face heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight next spring.

As for Pacquiao, he retired in 2021 after a loss to Yordenis Ugás in order to focus on his bid for the Philippine presidency.

Pacquiao lost the race, though, and decided to return to boxing for a WBC welterweight title fight against Mario Barrios back in July.

Despite having been retired for nearly four years, Pacquiao almost took the title, but Barrios retained as a result of a majority draw.

Pacquiao's performance against Barrios suggests that he has at least something left in the tank, but it is less clear where Mayweather stands.

Given his lengthy layoff, perfect career record and previous victory over Pacquiao, Mayweather has a lot to lose by coming out of retirement and facing Pacquiao, but if the fan interest and money are there, perhaps it could become a reality.
