British Open 2015 Leaderboard: Latest Scores and Standings from Monday

Christopher SimpsonJul 20, 2015

The final day of the 2015 British Open is upon us, and it's all to play for with a host of big names all in contention for the prestigious major.

Thanks to the weather delays on Friday and Saturday, the final round is being played on a Monday for the first time since 1988.

Nevertheless, it's set to be a memorable day of golf as three players are tied for the lead heading into the round.

Paul Dunne, Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day all sit at 12 under, while Jordan Spieth and Padraig Harrington could still have a big say as they tee off at 11 under and 10 under, respectively.

Here's the updated leaderboard:

Dunne and Spieth on the Verge of History

Paul Dunne's joint lead heading into the final day is particularly notable as the Irishman is an amateur entry into the competition.

The 22-year-old is only the third amateur in the Open's 144-year history to hold the lead after 54 holes, and he would be only the second to win after Bobby Jones in 1927.

Per the European Tour's official Twitter feed and sports broadcaster John Duggan, Dunne has been in outstanding form at St. Andrews:

According to Steve DiMeglio of USA Today, Dunne is taking each day as it comes:

"

I think it’ll be the same as the last three days, see what the weather is going to throw at us and then put a number in my head that I think I need to shoot.

I’m not really going to think about winning or where I’m going to finish until the last few holes. I can’t control what other people do. Everyone could go out and shoot 63 or everyone could shoot 75. All I can do is control to committing to my shots and hopefully that leaves me in good stead at the end of the day.

"

ESPN.com's Jason Sobel notes that as an amateur, Dunne would not receive the substantial prize money should he make history on Monday:

Nevertheless, the Irishman won't be lacking in motivation, so expect him to be determined in his fight to win the major.

However, Monday will naturally be unfamiliar territory for Dunne, so the biggest battle he will face will be with himself. If he can hold his nerve and post another solid round, he could just be in with a chance.

Another who will make history if he wins is Spieth.

As Sobel reports, a victory for the 21-year-old would cap an incredible achievement:

Spieth belied his years with class and a cool head as he won both the Masters and the U.S. Open earlier this year, and he is carrying great momentum after shooting six under on Sunday.

Oosthuizen, Day and Harrington will all provide a strong challenge to Dunne and Spieth, but with the pair in such good form, there's an excellent chance of history being made at the British Open.

One thing is certain, the action is not to be missed.
