Penguins Confirm Fan Hospitalized After Falling from Upper Level At PPG Paints Arena

The Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed Monday night that a fan was hospitalized after falling from the upper concourse to the lower bowl of PPG Paints Arena during their 6-3 win over the St. Louis Blues.

In a statement, the organization noted that an adult male received medical treatment before getting transported to a local hospital.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the fall occurred early in the first period of Monday's game after Anthony Mantha scored to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead.

Per the AP, Pittsburgh police told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that the fan was in critical condition.

Penguins superstar center and captain Sidney Crosby addressed the situation after the game, telling reporters: "It doesn't feel right to be talking about points when you hear something like that. Obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with that person and their family and hopefully they're OK."

As noted by the Associated Press, Monday night's incident marked the third time somebody has suffered a major fall at the venue of a Pittsburgh professional sports team since May.

In May, 20-year-old Kavan Markwood fell from a 21-foot-high wall onto the warning track at the Pittsburgh Pirates' PNC Park. Markwood suffered serious injuries before recovering.

On Saturday night, a man who was working on the scoreboard at the Pittsburgh Steelers' Acrisure Stadium fell nearly 50 feet onto a catwalk area.

WTAE's Lily Coleman reported Monday that the man was stabilized and taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition with serious injuries.
