Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce Make History, Excite NFL Fans as Chiefs Beat Commanders

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce made history as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Washington Commanders 28–7 on Sunday at home.

Mahomes reached the 40,000-yard passing milestone on Sunday, joining Peyton Manning as the only other player to reach that mark within their first nine seasons, including the postseason.

Meanwhile, Kelce recorded the 83rd touchdown of his career, tying Priest Holmes for the most in Chiefs history.

Mahomes threw for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, completing 25-of-34 passes while connecting with Kelce for a 10-yard touchdown and Rashee Rice for another score. Kareem Hunt added both a rushing and receiving touchdown, finishing with 40 yards on the ground.

The Commanders remained without Jayden Daniels as veteran Marcus Mariota finished with 213 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, completing 21-of-30 passes.

Fans reacted with excitement to the Chiefs' historic night as they defeated the Washington Commanders.

With the home win, the Chiefs improved to 5–3 on the season and extended their winning streak to three games as they continue to build momentum in the AFC standings, closing in on the Los Angeles Chargers. Meanwhile, the Commanders fell to 4–4.

Back-to-back interceptions from Mariota and Mahomes on the opening possessions of the first quarter set the tone for an ugly start that ended scoreless. 

Mahomes threw another interception on his second drive to open the second quarter but bounced back with a touchdown later in the period, sending the teams into halftime tied at seven.

The Chiefs found their rhythm in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns to take a 21–7 lead after three. They added one more score in the fourth to pull away and secure the victory heading into next week.

The Chiefs will hit the road next Sunday to face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
