Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Steelers Reportedly Agree to Contract, Rejoins Aaron Rodgers

Andrew PetersOct 27, 2025

Marquez Valdes-Scantling is re-joining his former quarterback in free agency.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the veteran wide receiver has agreed to a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, reuniting him with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Valdes-Scantling and Rodgers spent four seasons together with the Green Bay Packers.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, a handful of teams were interested in Valdes-Scantling, including the injury-ridden Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but playing alongside Rodgers "proved to be the deciding factor."

Valdes-Scantling had some of the best seasons of his career while playing alongside Rodgers. During Rodgers' MVP campaign in 2020, Valdes-Scantling had a career-high 690 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

After spending the first four seasons of his career in Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was one of Patrick Mahomes' favorite targets during the Chiefs' Super Bowl run in 2022. He wasn't quite as productive in 2023 and was ultimately released by Kansas City.

Following his two-year stint in Kansas City, he signed with the Buffalo Bills ahead of the 2024 campaign. He had just two receptions for 26 yards in six games with the Bills and was cut when the team traded for wide receiver Amari Cooper. He finished out last season with the New Orleans Saints, recording 385 yards and four touchdowns in eight games.

Valdes-Scantling spent the offseason with the Seattle Seahawks, but didn't make their 53-man roster, leading him to sign with the San Francisco 49ers. He had four receptions for 40 yards in five games in San Francisco before landing on the injured reserve with a calf injury earlier this month. The 49ers then released him.

Now Valdes-Scantling is back with Rodgers and he'll look to make the most of the opportunity while aiding the Steelers in their playoff pursuit.
