Aaron Glenn Declines to Name Justin Fields QB1 After Jets' Bye Despite 1st Win of 2025
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields played one of his best games of the season to lead the team to its first win on Sunday with a 39-38 comeback against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it doesn't sound like his status as the starter is solidified.
While speaking to reporters on Monday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn declined to confirm that Fields will remain the starting quarterback when the team returns from its bye in Week 10 against the Cleveland Browns.
"I think you know what my answer's going to be on that," Glenn said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "This is the bye week and we're going to focus on us. I have time to make that decision."

Fields was benched in the second half of New York's Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers for veteran backup Tyrod Taylor, and Glenn refused to name the starter in the week leading up to Sunday's game against the Bengals until it was determined that Taylor wouldn't be able to play due to a knee injury.
Fields shined in the face of adversity and rebounded from his recent disappointing performances by throwing for 244 yards and a touchdown while making crucial plays to help the Jets overcome a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit, the second-largest comeback in franchise history.
The performance by Fields helped him earn the respect of his teammates, many of whom are wondering their fate ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
"It seemed like the world was kind of crashing in around him, and he just went out there with football in his mind, locked in, played a hell of a game and led us to the win," Jets safety Isaiah Oliver said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "He was vocal on the sideline all week during practice. None of that changed who he was."
At 1-7, the Jets should be focused on evaluating which players can remain a part of their future, so the bye week will be important for Fields to prove that he should remain the starting quarterback going forward.
