NFL Exec Says Jaxson Dart's 'Spark Is About to Dissipate' as Teams 'Make Him Play QB'

Joseph ZuckerOct 27, 2025

One NFL executive feels teams may be learning the book on New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart as the first-round pick gets more snaps.

The exec told The Athletic's Mike Sando that New York's Week 7 collapse against the Denver Broncos could be a turning point.

"When you lose a game like you just did, allowing 33 points in one quarter, I feel like you do not recover," they said. "I feel like now, teams are going to have a good feel for who this quarterback is, and that magic he had from going in there and being the spark is about to dissipate, because teams are going to make him play quarterback."

Dart had 283 yards and three touchdowns against the Broncos, but the interception he threw in the fourth quarter helped fuel Denver's improbable comeback.

The rookie struggled much more against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He went 14-of-24 for 193 yards and one touchdown, and the Eagles defense sacked him five times.

On the whole, Dart hasn't been prolific. He's averaging 196.8 yards with a 90.8 passer rating through his first five starts.

When many considered him to a long-term project, the former Ole Miss star is arguably ahead of schedule. He may soon, however, hit a wall that's common with pretty much every other young quarterback.

Opposing coaches are increasingly seeing how Dart's skills translate on the field and the ways Giants head coach Brian Daboll is scheming around his flaws. Cam Skattebo's dislocated ankle doesn't help, either, because New York's ground game won't be as formidable without the physical running back.

There's no reason to make any sweeping judgments about Dart and whether he's a true franchise QB. The early excitement he generated may begin to fade as the season wears on, though.
