Patriots' Trade Block, Wish List Reportedly Revealed amid NFL Deadline Rumors
The New England Patriots have an opportunity to move to 6-2 if they defeat the 2-5 Cleveland Browns at home Sunday, which could make them buyers ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
ESPN's Mike Reiss reported adding a veteran pass-rusher to provide support for Harold Landry III and K'Lavon Chaisson "would be ideal." He also highlighted running back depth as another potential area the Patriots could address at the deadline as "the void created by running back Antonio Gibson's torn right ACL in Week 5 still stings."
New England has 10 draft picks in 2026 and eight in 2027, so there are plenty of options when it comes to making moves.
Yet Reiss also reported "how any potential addition affects team chemistry and the development of other players on the roster will be a strong consideration in the decision-making process."
Defensively, Landry and Chaisson have a combined 10 sacks. However, the rest of the team has a combined seven, underscoring just much of the heavy lifting the pair has done when it comes to the pass rush.
Adding another option could help keep Landry and Chaisson fresher down the stretch of the season and prevent opposing offensive lines from sending double teams their way.
As for running back, it seemed to be something of a strength heading into the season. Rhamondre Stevenson was a proven veteran, Antonio Gibson was a solid backup who could make plays in the passing game, and TreVeyon Henderson was a high-ceiling rookie and second-round draft pick who helped lead Ohio State to the national title last season.
That outlook has changed, though, as Gibson tore his ACL in Week 5 and Stevenson has dealt with fumbling concerns while averaging 3.6 yards per carry.
What's more, Henderson is also averaging just 3.6 yards per carry and has largely been an afterthought in the offense.
Second-year quarterback Drake Maye has carried the offense, but adding an effective running back at the deadline would take some of the pressure off his shoulders and allow the offense to control more of the clock and game as the season progresses.
It remains to be seen whether New England parlays its hot start to the season into an aggressive approach at the deadline, but it knows its areas of need and could respond accordingly.
