Mike McDaniel Reportedly Hasn't Lost 'Vast Majority' of Dolphins Despite 1-6 Record
It feels like there is a referendum on Mike McDaniel's job security each week, which isn't surprising given the team's brutal start to the 2025 season. But the Dolphins continue to stick by the embattled head coach.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, "McDaniel has not lost the vast majority of Miami's locker room despite a 1-6 start."
That doesn't mean that some sort of change isn't necessary.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"Miami needs a fresh start," an NFL general manager told Russini. "They never really developed and drafted well enough. They put Band-Aids on the roster and no progress. Mike's not a bad coach. It's just an aimless program... not a program that can be sustained."
McDaniel's tenure got off to a positive start, with a 20-14 record in his first two seasons and two playoff appearances. But the team was 8-9 last year, hurt by Tua Tagovailoa's injury issues and a poor internal culture that has remained a storyline.
It remains to be seen if McDaniel, still highly regarded as an offensive mind, will be able to right the ship. The Dolphins haven't been trending in a great direction, however.
