Brian Thomas Jr. Trade Calls Reportedly Fielded by Jaguars Ahead of NFL Deadline

Adam WellsOct 25, 2025

Amid a disappointing start to his second season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are at least willing to hear trade inquiries about Brian Thomas Jr.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Jaguars are "listening on calls" for the second-year wide receiver even though a deal is considered "highly unlikely."

A member of the loaded receiver class from the 2024 draft, Thomas had an outstanding debut season. He finished third in the NFL with 1,282 yards and tied for sixth with 10 touchdowns.

When the Jaguars added Travis Hunter with the No. 2 pick in this year's draft, it was assumed that would help create even more opportunities for Thomas because opposing defenses had to worry about two dynamic playmakers.

Instead, Thomas has been frustratingly inconsistent through seven weeks. The LSU alum has just one game with more than five catches and at least 90 yards. He had six games with at least 90 yards in 2024.

Among all players with at least 50 targets this season, Thomas' 41.8 percent success rate and 49.1 percent catch rate are the second-worst marks in the NFL. Jerry Jeudy is the only player behind him at 32.7 percent in success rate and a 42.3 percent catch rate (22 receptions on 52 targets).

One of the big problems for Thomas has been catching the ball. He has been credited with an NFL-high nine drops on 55 targets this season.

It's not a surprise that opposing teams would look to capitalize on Thomas having a down season, hoping the Jaguars might be willing to sell low on him to add future draft capital after giving up a 2026 first-round pick to the Cleveland Brownas as part of the package to move up to select Hunter.

There's no reason for the Jaguars to sell low on Thomas right now. He is only 23, one year removed from having one of the best receiving seasons in franchise history and on a rookie contract for at least two more years, plus the fifth-year option in 2028.
