Patriots' Mike Vrabel Won't Compare Drake Maye to Tom Brady amid Breakout Season
Drake Maye's strong start to the 2025 season has evoked some comparison to New England Patriots great Tom Brady. Just don't ask Mike Vrabel to draw any parallels.
"No, he doesn't drive a yellow jeep to work," Vrabel joked on The Rich Eisen Show when asked if Maye reminds him of Brady (7:30 mark). "I would say that's one thing that's different.

NFL Not Investigating Mike Vrabel
When Eisen further pressed for any on-field similarities, Vrabel continued to sidestep the question, saying he didn't think any of it was "even accurate," though he does "love Drake's youthful energy, 23 years old, my god I've got kids that are 23 years old. That's been fun, to have that energy around here."
Vrabel's approach to the question makes sense. If he suggests in any way that Maye resembles Brady from his New England years, it's incredibly lofty praise that ramps up the pressure on the young quarterback significantly. If he goes too far in the other direction rejecting the comparison, it could be interpreted as a negative assessment of Maye.
And Maye being Maye has worked out just fine to this point, with the young quarterback throwing for 1,744 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions this year. More importantly, the Patriots are 5-2 and look like one of the best turnaround stories in the NFL this season.
Eventually, his legacy will be compared to Brady's, an inevitability for every Patriots quarterback to come. For now, however, that comparison is unnecessary.
