Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Pedro Rodriguez and Manchester United

Christopher SimpsonJul 19, 2015

Manchester United are set to make a bid for Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez, per the latest rumours.

According to Marca, United will make an offer between ยฃ18 and ยฃ20 million in the coming week.

The report added: "When Pedro renewed his contract at the end of last season, the player and club agreed that if an offer of over 25 million euros were to be made then the club would be prepared to negotiate his departure. And this is exactly what United intend to do next week."

After Robin van Persie departed for Fenerbahce and Radamel Falcao's loan deal was not made permanent, United are left with only Javier Hernandez, James Wilson and Wayne Rooney up front.ย

Having spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, Hernandez is also likely to leave, meaning the Red Devils will have just one senior striker and an inexperienced youngster.

Pedro, meanwhile, has been unsettled for some time at Barca as he is largely used as cover for star trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

In March,ย he told beIN Sports, perย Stefan Coertsย of Goal.com:

"I am going through a difficult period.ย It is clear that I am having a tough time to find a place in the team at the moment. I have had few chances to play this season.

"I will consider my options in the summer and will then talk with the club to discuss my future."

Despite his limited playing time, the Spaniard managed to score 11 goals last season, and create a further nine.

Though not the out-and-out centre-forward United need, Pedro's intelligent running and eye for goal would see him fit in well at Old Trafford and ably contribute in attacking areas.

Indeed, the Guardian's Sid Lowe summed up the classy 27-year-old's key strengths on Twitter:

Pedro is clearly keen to leave Barcelona for regular football, and with the 2016 European Championships looming on the horizon, a move this summer is more likely than it has ever been.

Though Luis Enrique will be reluctant to lose such a valuable player in the midst of Barca's transfer ban, he will have Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal available from January, so he's unlikely to stand in the way of a move.

For both Pedro and United, a transfer would be highly beneficial as he would enjoy more playing time and offer goals and creativity up front.
