Patrick Roberts to Manchester City: Latest Transfer Details, Comments, Reaction
Manchester City have captured their fourth signing of the summer after securing the signature of Fulham youngster Patrick Roberts.
City confirmed the capture via their official Twitter feed:
According to Sky Sports, the deal is thought to be worth up to £12 million.
The 18-year-old made just 17 appearances in the Championship last season, starting only twice.
With the midfielder's opportunities likely to be limited at City, sports reporter Ian Abrahams believes the move is ill-advised:
However, as noted by Squawka, Roberts maintained a passing accuracy of 83 per cent last season and won 54 per cent of his duels, which offers some indication as to City's thinking behind the move.
Indeed, Bleacher Report's own Sam Tighe believes Roberts to have an excellent future ahead of him despite the scepticism surrounding his signing:
As this tweet from City Vines shows, the youngster is comfortable in possession thanks to his extraordinarily quick feet:
Roberts is City's third English signing of the summer following the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph, which will bolster the number of homegrown players available to manager Manuel Pellegrini and help them avoid falling foul of the Premier League's quota in the future.
In him, City have also acquired a player of undoubted talent and potential, and should Roberts live up to that potential then he could well prove he was worth the large fee and so much more in the next few seasons.
