After surrendering a season-high in points in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers star safety Derwin James Jr. didn't mince words when assessing his team's defensive performance.

"We played like s--t. We looked like trash," James said after the game.

The Chargers didn't record a turnover and registered just one sack on Colts quarterback Daniel Jones in the loss, which dropped their record to 4-3. Jones threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns, while star running back Jonathan Taylor had a big day with 94 rushing yards and three scores on 16 carries.

The Chargers have allowed over 20 points in all but one game this season. In 2024, the team led the league in scoring defense with an average of 17.7 points allowed per game.

James and company will have to return to their old form if they hope to earn a spot in the playoffs in the competitive AFC. Los Angeles won't have a lot of time to regroup, as it will face the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football in Week 8.
