Max Verstappen Wins United States Grand Prix to Close Gap on McLaren's Piastri, Norris

Max Verstappen continued his late charge at the Formula 1 drivers' championship with a win at the United States Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Red Bull Racing driver swept the weekend at Circuit of the Americas. He won Saturday's sprint race and Sunday's main event.

Verstappen is now just 26 points back of Lando Norris for second place and 40 points behind Oscar Piastri in the drivers' championship.

Verstappen's victory gave him three wins in the last four races. He won the pole and captured first place in each of those three victories.

The surge from Red Bull Racing's top driver has made the drivers' championship a three-way battle with five races to go.

McLaren was the dominant team throughout the first half of the season, but Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are now on a combined four-race winless streak.

Only Norris put himself on the podium in Austin. He used a late overtake against Charles Leclerc to take second. Leclerc held on for the third and final podium spot.

Piastri took fifth to continue a spell of disappointing results. The Australian hasn't finished on the podium in each of the last three races.

The championship race now heads to Mexico City, where Verstappen has won three of the last four events. He has five overall wins at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Neither of the McLaren drivers have a win in Mexico City.

In fact, Verstappen won at all five remaining tracks on the 2025 F1 schedule. Norris won at Abu Dhabi in 2024, but he hasn't won at any of the other four tracks. Piastri's never won at the five remaining tracks.

Verstappen's form and his history across the upcoming circuits makes the championship race so compelling.
