Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Has Accident at Home, Out With Concussion vs. Commanders

Zach BacharOct 17, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys will be without cornerback Trevon Diggs heading into an NFC East clash against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed that Diggs had an "accident" at his home on Thursday night and suffered a concussion that will keep him out of the matchup with the Commanders, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Diggs has appeared in each of Dallas' first six regular-season contests this year.

It was a promising start to the season for Diggs in terms of his availability, as health issues have prevented him from making a consistent impact as of late. He's only appeared in 13 of a possible 34 regular-season games over the past two years, suiting up for just two contests in 2023 before suffering a season-endingย torn ACL.

The 2020 second-round pick quickly developed into a starter for Dallas, leading the NFL with 11 interceptions during his sophomore season in 2021 before earning a first-team All-Proย selection.

Diggs remained sharp during his 2022 campaign, receiving Pro Bowl recognition before injuries started to affect his career.

This year, the 27-year-old has recorded 18 tackles and one tackle for loss. Diggs hasn't found much success in coverage and owns a 154.9 passer rating when targeted, according toย Pro Football Focus.

Dallas' secondary has struggled as a whole, owning the NFL'sย worstย pass defense by allowing 269.5 yards per game through the air.

Kaiir Elam is a candidate to replace Diggs at cornerback against the Commanders, but ESPN'sย Todd Archerย also reported that the Cowboys are expected to active 2024 fifth-round pickย Caelen Carson off injured reserve for his season debut.

Kickoff between Dallas and Washington on Sunday is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
