Belichick Reportedly 'Felt Tricked and Betrayed' by 'Villainous Portrayal' in Pats Doc

The Apple TV docuseries about the New England Patriots that aired in 2024 reportedly left a bad taste in Bill Belichick's mouth.

On the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out (18:45 mark), Pablo Torre explained that Belichick "felt tricked and betrayed by his villainous portrayal" on the show about the Patriots' historic 20-year run of success.

Torre also noted that the impetus behind Belichick and Jordon Hudson wanting to create a North Carolina-focused series was to let them control his narrative because of how he felt about the Apple TV show.

It was reported last week that Hulu, which had been working with Belichick and Hudson on a docuseries, was not moving forward with the show, however it is being shopped around to other outlets.

The 10-episode series debuted on Feb. 16, 2024, nearly one month to the day (Jan. 11) that Belichick and the Patriots announced a mutual parting of ways following 24 seasons together.

Filming of the interview segments on the show occurred well before it was decided the Patriots and Belichick were splitting up, but the timing of its release did add to the drama around the legendary coach's portrayal.

Writing about the show after it debuted, The Athletic's Chad Graff noted several Patriots players described the difficulty of playing for Belichick. Special teams ace Matthew Slater described it as "brutal."

Graff noted Wes Welker "compared (Tom) Brady to an abused dog for continually going back to work for Belichick."

WEEI's Tom Curran noted prior to the series premiere that Belichick "hated" the show.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show in January, Belichick compared the docuseries to a roast with him as the subject.

The main focus of the series as it went on was the deteriorating relationship between Belichick and Tom Brady, which prompted the iconic quarterback to leave the Patriots after the 2019 season to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady led the Bucs to a Super Bowl title in his first season with the club. The Patriots had one winning season and one playoff appearance in four years with Belichick after Brady's departure.
