Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Best MLB DraftKings Picks, Advice for July 19

Brian MaziqueJul 19, 2015

There are so many aces on the mound for Sunday's games, the pitching matchups will make you think it's Opening Day.

With few games on the schedule without an elite pitcher going, it would behoove DraftKings players to stack their positional picks in the games that don't feature No. 1 and No. 2 guys on the mound.

Here's a look at one game that doesn't figure to produce any great hitting performances:

Game to Avoid for Positional Player Picks

Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals

With Zack Greinke and Max Scherzer on the mound, it could be tough for hitters on both sides to get it going. Scherzer (0.78) and Greinke (0.84) are first and second in the majors in WHIP and third and first, respectively, in ERA.

Denard Span has hit Greinke well in his career, but the way the Dodgers stud has been going this season, he has to be expected to continue to shine.

Scherzerย looked to be on a record pace a little over a month ago. He has cooled off a bit since his run in June, but he'll be up for the head-to-head clash with Greinke and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The one current Dodgers positional player who has hit Scherzer well, Carl Crawford, isn't yet off the disabled list. Crawford is hitting .417 against Scherzer from their days in the American League.

Can you say 2-1 decision for the winner?

Best Stack Team for Positional Player Picks

Los Angeles Angels

I really like the Los Angeles Angels against Boston Red Sox rookie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. The Angels are sixth in the majors in home runs off left-handed pitching, and their home run every 28.4 at-bats against southpaws is the fourth-highest mark.

It helps when you have dominant right-handed hitters like Mike Trout and Erick Aybar who are both hitting over .300 against lefties this season. Trout's been on a tear, even by his standards. In his last nine games, the game's best player is hitting .371 with six home runs and 12 RBI. That's not even counting the dinger he hit in the All-Star Game.

As far as the platoon stats are concerned, Trout looks good there, too.

Eight of Trout's league-leading 27 home runs have come against lefties. Aybar hasn't slugged the way Trout has, but his slugging percentage and OPS are both higher against lefties.

Rodriguez has had a solid rookie season for Boston, but led by the game's best player, the Angels will get to Rodriguez, with at least two players putting up strong fantasy numbers.

Best Pitcher Pick

Jake Arrieta, $11,900 at Atlanta Braves

The Chicago Cubs starting rotation has been among the best in the majors all season. Among the best of the bunch is Jake Arrieta. He hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last five starts.ย

In that span, Arrieta has averaged 31.4 fantasy points per game. His $11,900 salary is the third-highest on the day, but Arrieta is pitching as well as anyone in the majors. The Atlanta Braves have scored more than four runs in just one of their last six games.

Despite the high price tag, Arrieta will be worth it.

Best Position Player Pick

Hunter Pence , $5,100 at Arizona Diamondbacks

There's every reason to draft Hunter Pence on Sunday. He and the San Francisco Giants hitters face the Arizona Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin, and that should help produce a studly performance for Pence.

In 19 career at-bats, Pence is hitting .474 against Corbin. Of the nine hits Pence has against Corbin, six of them have been for extra bases. Among those extra-base knocks is three home runs.

Pence also happens to come into the game on fire. He's hitting .500 in his last three games with three walks and three RBI. When you combine Pence's success against Corbin and his recent hot hitting, he has to be the top positional player on the board.
