Sinner is the defending champion at this event, defeating Alcaraz in three sets last year. Djokovic met Rafael Nadal in the third-place match, with Djoker getting the win in two sets.

There has been some pushback from top stars taking part in an exhibition tournament after several players, both men and women, criticized the physical demands the traditional schedule takes on their bodies with events held from January through November.

Alcaraz was asked about the situation prior to the start of the Six Kings Slam, telling reporters that a maximum three-match exhibition event doesn't put as much stress on the body.

"I understand (the criticism), but sometimes people don't understand us, our opinions," Alcaraz said. "It's not really demanding mentally (compared to) when we're having such long events like two weeks or two and a half weeks."

Another thing that participants have cited is the money involved. Fritz told reporters on Tuesday that it's an easy gig for the chance to win $6 million.

"I'd love for them to show me a tournament where you can go play three matches -—well, for the top two seeds, two matches—and potentially make $6 million," Fritz said. "I'd love to hear that from them."

The $6 million payout to the Six Kings Slam winner is higher than any ATP or WTA event. The highest grand-prize payout at a single tournament this year was $5 million at the U.S. Open.

Six Kings Slam's top financial prize is also greater than the combined payout for the winner of the Australian Open ($2.3 million) and French Open ($2.9 million).

The final match on Saturday will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET. All matches are streaming on Netflix.
