Caleb Williams Reacts to Troy Aikman During Bears-Commanders MNF, Talks 'Fun Trolls'
Caleb Williams went to USC and Troy Aikman went to UCLA, so perhaps a good old fashioned college rivalry contributed to some of the discourse following the Chicago Bears' 25-24 victory on Monday.
Aikman was on the call as part of ESPN's coverage of the game and caught the attention of fans for a seemingly critical tone of Williams. The Bears quarterback then took to Instagram after the win and captioned some photographs with the words "'It was lucky' - TA?"
Notably, Aikman said, "Just, um, luck on Chicago's part" about D'Andre Swift's 55-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter that cut the deficit to two and proved to be one of the biggest plays of the game.

Williams addressed the entire situation Wednesday during his press conference.
"It's fun. Fun trolls. I was messing around," he said. "… Obviously he had some stuff to say about us or me. We came out victorious in the end. … I could care less. Fair, not, life isn't fair.
"People are going to say what they have to say. We win, we lose, people have stuff to say. It was lucky, it was not lucky. … It doesn't matter, we're only worried about what's going on here within this building and with these guys."
He also said he didn't have the typical pregame meeting with Aikman prior to the broadcast that he normally does with commentators, even though he reached out himself:
While Chicago ended up getting the massive road win with a game-winning field goal by Jake Moody that stood in stark contrast to its Hail Mary loss against the same opponent last season, plenty of fans still took to social media to express their reservations about Aikman's commentary:
Williams was far from perfect but still put up solid numbers at 17-of-29 passing for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception to go with one rushing touchdown. He also directed a fourth-quarter comeback as the Bears improved to 3-2 with their third straight win.
On the other side was Jayden Daniels, who threw for three touchdowns but also had a pick and lost fumble. The fumble came in the final minutes with the Commanders nursing a lead, and the Bears took advantage with the winning field goal on the ensuing possession.
Two of Chicago's first five games were on Monday Night Football, but it isn't scheduled to play on a Monday the rest of the season.
That means fans might have to wait until 2026 to hear what Aikman has to say about Williams the next time he is on a broadcast.
