A number of folks around the sport reacted to the news:
Mangold, 41, spent 11 seasons in the NFL, all with the Jets. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro, helping lead the team to the playoffs three times.
"Being able to finish out my career here [in New York], being able to play for only one team is something really special to me," he said last November on The Official Jets Podcast (h/t Eric Allen of the team's website). "It's a great team to be a part of, this fan base is as passionate as they come, loyal as all get-out and dying for a winner."
He was one of 128 modern-era players to be nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2026 in September.
