Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes picked a good time to have his best performance of the 2025 NFL season.

The six-time Pro Bowler lit up the Detroit Lions defense to the tune of 257 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-30 passing. He also ran for 32 yards and one score.

Mahomes made history on the night, recording 300 career touchdown passes between the regular season and playoffs faster than any other player.

Sunday's performance from Kansas City was the perfect reply to the people who started to question whether the three-time reigning AFC champion is in a general downturn.

The Chiefs were 2-3 heading into Week 6, and Mahomes was averaging 251.4 yards per game with a 93.5 passer rating, below his career numbers.

Sunday night was a return to form from Andy Reid's squad, and Mahomes was a tone-setter under center. The six-time Pro Bowler and his head coach had a plan to target Detroit's linebackers on shorter throws, and they executed the strategy with surgical precision.

With a 3-3 record, Kansas City is still third in the AFC West and wouldn't even claim a wild-card spot if the season ended right now. One victory, no matter how decisive, doesn't mean the Chiefs have solved all of their issues.

It's hard not to overreact, though, and put them back in the pole position in the AFC title race on the basis of what unfolded at Arrowhead Stadium.
