Bucs' Emeka Egbuka Reportedly Expected to Miss Time With Hamstring Injury

Andrew PetersOct 13, 2025

A standout rookie for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is reportedly expected to miss time after suffering an injury on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that wide receiver Emeka Egbuka will undergo testing on his hamstring injury to determine how much time he'll miss after leaving Sunday's game:

The Bucs announced during the second half that Egbuka was ruled out for the game. Egbuka had a pair of receptions for 24 yards before the injury.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, Egbuka isn't the only player who could be sidelined for the team's next game:

Egbuka, the 19th overall pick out of Ohio State, has made a strong case for Offensive Rookie of the Year through the first few weeks of the season, recording the fourth-most receiving yards in the NFL (445) and second-most receiving touchdowns (5) through five games.

He had his best game of the season last week when he went off for 163 yards and a touchdown in a 38-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Egbuka and MVP candidate Baker Mayfield have led the Bucs to a 4-1 start despite missing key pieces of the offense like Mike Evans.

But if Egbuka, Tampa Bay's receiving leader by a wide margin, has to miss time, it will be a major loss for a receiver group already down a few men.

Evans has been out since Week 3 because of a hamstring strain he suffered against the New York Jets. Chris Godwin, who returned from last year's season-ending injury at the end of September, missed Sunday's game because of a fibula injury.

The Bucs' 4-1 start has them in a good position to make a playoff run, but things could quickly change if they are without all three of their top receivers.

If Egbuka, Evans and Godwin are all out for Monday's contest against the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay will lean on secondary options like Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson.
