Mike Tyson Reveals Top Takeaway from Jake Paul Loss in Prep for Floyd Mayweather Fight

Doric SamOct 12, 2025

As he prepares for his upcoming exhibition fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mike Tyson is hoping to learn from his loss to Jake Paul nearly a year ago.

Tyson told Natasha Dye of People that his biggest takeaway from the fight against Paul last November was that he lacked mental focus, saying that he plans to "just enjoy the moment" when he's in the ring against Mayweather.

"This moment's going to be over," he said, adding, "Just enjoy it, it doesn't last forever."

Tyson lost to Paul by unanimous decision in the first combat sports event ever to be streamed live on Netflix. It was the 59-year-old's first fight since November 2021.

The official date for Tyson's match against Mayweather has not been announced, but it's expected to go down in Spring 2026. Tyson didn't divulge any details on his training for the fight, but he said he's looking forward to facing one of the greatest boxers of the recent era.

"I'm just preparing, and looking forward," Tyson said. "It's just a wonderful thing that could happen"
