Chiefs' Chris Jones Explains Why He Got Off Social Media, Talks Effort on Lawrence TD
Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones drew some criticism on social media for his apparent lack of effort when Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence scored a game-winning touchdown on Monday night, but he didn't see any of it.
Jones told reporters on Thursday that he deactivated his social media accounts before the game against Jacksonville, not because of any criticism he received after the game. He also admitted that he should've shown more effort on Lawrence's touchdown.
"It's a teaching point. … It's my job to finish. I'll be better at it," Jones said.

With the Jaguars trailing 28-24 with less than 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Lawrence hit the ground after receiving the snap but was never touched, so he got up and scrambled into the end zone to give his team the comeback win. Jones appeared to stop running when Lawrence fell, and he didn't chase after him while he ran toward the goal line.
The 31-28 loss gave the Chiefs a 2-3 record, just a year after they lost two games over the entire 2024 campaign.
"We have the guys and we've executed at certain points in games and looked really good, but we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes," Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes said after the game. "We've done that to ourselves all season long. It's been one guy here or there. In this league, it's so close that those [moments] change games. We've got to be better. We've lost too many games already."
Jones has been a first-team All-Pro selection in each of the last three years, so he knows what it takes to play winning football. It's unlikely that his mistake against the Jaguars will define his season, and he's shown the accountability necessary to believe that it won't happen again.
Jones and the Chiefs will be under the spotlight once again when they try to bounce back in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions (4-1) on Sunday Night Football.
