Russell Wilson Trade Calls Reportedly Still Anticipated By Giants Ahead of Deadline
The Cincinnati Bengals decided to trade for Joe Flacco instead of Russell Wilson as they attempt to tread water with Joe Burrow sidelined by a toe injury, but the New York Giants reportedly still expect some interest in their veteran quarterback.
"I think the Giants are still anticipating calls for Russ," NFL insider Dianna Russini reported Wednesday on the Scoop City podcast (15:55 mark). "I think they think they will get them between now and the trade deadline in November."

Russini noted the Bengals were not interested in Wilson and it wasn't a situation where New York turned away any overtures.
That New York would potentially want to trade Wilson away comes as no surprise, as he is signed through just this season and could exit ahead of the 2026 campaign regardless of whether there is a move before the Nov. 4 deadline.
The Giants are also just 1-4 on the season and have already turned the offense over to Jaxson Dart.
Dart was a first-round pick in this year's draft, so the NFC East team surely wants to see what it has in him sooner rather than later. If everything goes according to plan, he could be the franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Even if Wilson played well at the start of the year, he was never going to be in the long-term plans for the Giants. After all, he turns 37 years old next November and is on a team that is still in the early stages of a rebuilding project.
Getting a mid-round pick for him to possibly help that rebuilding effort would be a win for the Giants at this point.
The Wisconsin product went 0-3 in his three starts prior to the switch to Dart and completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 786 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. While he carved up the Dallas Cowboys defense, those numbers weren't good enough to justify waiting on Dart any longer.
That means Wilson is available for a contender that might need quarterback help because of an injury or poor performance, and all indications are the Giants are open to moving him ahead of the deadline.
