Jack Eichel, Golden Knights Reportedly Discussing 8-Year Contract Extension
The Jack Eichel question will hover over the Vegas Golden Knights until they come to terms on a new deal since he is entering the final season on his current contract, but the two sides are reportedly making progress toward a long-term solution.
"He does not want to go anywhere," Pierre LeBrun of TSN reported Tuesday (3:20 mark). "His only focus is signing with the Vegas Golden Knights. The two sides, I'm told, are really focused on an eight-year deal."
Vegas acquired the center ahead of the 2021-22 season from the Buffalo Sabres via trade, and it didn't take him long to make an impact.

While injuries limited him to just 34 games in his first season with the Golden Knights, he helped lead them to a Stanley Cup title in his second season behind a sparkling 26 points in 22 postseason games.
That playoff performance alone made him a franchise legend, and he helped lead the team to the playoffs the following two seasons as well.
Eichel finished the 2024-25 campaign with a career-best 94 points on 66 assists and 28 goals. He also posted a career-best plus-minus total of plus-32 and was one of the best players in the league for extended stretches.
He finished in fifth place in Hart Memorial Trophy voting (MVP), fifth in Frank J. Selke Trophy voting (top defensive forward) and third in Lady Byng Memorial Trophy voting (sportsmanship combined with effective play on the ice).
The 28-year-old is the focal point of Vegas' attack, and he figures to have plenty of seasons of peak performance remaining given his age and his showing during the 2024-25 campaign. He looked as dominant as he ever has in a Golden Knights uniform, and it comes as no surprise they would want to extend him for the foreseeable future.
Vegas starts its new season on Wednesday with a home game against the Los Angeles Kings.
